Nelly Sachs

Nelly Sachs is a German-Jewish writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature jointedly with Shmuel Yosef Agnon. Nobel Prize website states she won the award "for her outstanding lyrical and dramatic writing, which interprets Israel's destiny with touching strength".  She fled Germany to Sweden in 1940.
