Pablo Neruda was a Chilean writer who won the
Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971. The name is a pen name; his real name was Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto. Nobel Prize webpage describes him by the following quote: "
for a poetry that with the action of an elemental force brings alive a continent's destiny and dreams". Him being a political figure made his selection for Nobel Prize in Literature contraversial.
None other the
Gabriel García Márquez called him the greatest poet of the 20th century.
